A vacation in Russia isn’t complete without a visit to the Palace Square. This is a large square in St Petersburg where visitors can marvel at the Alexander Column. The Alexander column stands 155 feet high and was built in honor of Alexander I and his defeat of Napoleon in 1812. Another landmark in the square is the Arch of the General Headquarters. This arch is 3,300 feet and the longest arch in existence in Europe!
Peterhof once served as a summer residence of the Russian Tsars and is a town famous for its palaces, fountains and parks. Built by Peter the Great; it took two centuries to build and includes seven parks and 20 smaller palaces and pavilions. The Grand Cascade is a series of three waterfalls, 64 fountains and no less than 37 gilded statues – in particular the well-known statue of Samson. A vacation in Russia should include at least one trip (preferably more) to Peterhof.
