They get lost in a world all their own when they are working with their plants, whether they are indoors or out. They find themselves immersed in the care of their plants and if for a just a little while, everything else is forgotten.
Even if you have never gardened before, you’ll find growing herbs to be very easy. Even for those who consider themselves to have a black thumb get a lot of enjoyment from it.
Probably the easiest way to get started with growing garden herbs is to look online or at the local garden center for one of the herb kits that you will find. They come pre-packaged with the most common herbs, such as culinary herbs, or those used in making herbal teas.
Gardeners having experience will already have an idea of what they want and what they need to grow garden herbs including the necessary pots, the herb varieties, peat, etc. Some herbs are much easier to grow than others, so this will be a consideration you will want to think about as well.
As you may already know, to grow garden herbs can be accomplished almost anywhere either in the house or outside. There are a few varieties however, that are best grown outdoors. Many herb gardeners grow their herbs right in the kitchen where they spend a lot of time, and where they do the cooking that will call for the herbs. It all comes down to your preferences, and the size of the garden that you choose to grow. Obviously, if you are growing the herbs indoors, then size will definitely matter.
If you want to grow garden herbs outdoors, then spring is the time you will generally be planting. Sow your herbs soon after the last frost of the year for best results. Most herbs are annuals, but in the milder climate you’ll find that herbs will grow year round. Areas that do not frost are ideal for perennial herbs. Rosemary is but one example of a perennial herb.
If you want to have herbs available all through the year you’ll most likely want to plant them inside in pots, then in the spring they can spend the majority of their time outdoors. Many people have built small greenhouses outdoors in which to grow their plants, but not everyone has the option of doing this for one reason or another.
Wherever you decide to be growing garden herbs they will require access to the sunlight for the most part and they will need to be watered accordingly as well. There are some varieties that prefer shady areas, but that is easily overcome with the use of covers or other means of blocking the sun from them.
When you grow garden herbs, there is virtually no limit to the possibilities.
You can absolutely go as far as your imagination will permit you to, because as long as they get the basic requirements such as water, sun, etc, everything else is fair game in the herb gardening arena.
