Most of us rely on our computer for a variety of things. If you lost everything on it today would you be able to recover it? Do you have documents, pictures, and other things on there that you would be devastated to lose? Most of us do yet we continue to take a risk with it. That is because we don’t back up our computer files on a regular basis. You should be doing this on a regular basis. Mark it on your calendar so you won’t forget because such things can slip the mind with so much going on.
Generally backing up our computer files once a month should be adequate. However, if you work from home or you are talking about business computers then you should do it once a week. It doesn’t take very long but it is going to save you time and money. With a crash, lots of data isn’t recovered at all. It isn’t always possible to recreate it. What can be salvaged can cost you thousands of dollars for an expert to extract.
If you have lots of data that you can’t lose, you want to have an automatic back up system in place. This can allow you to save your information on one computer but to also be sent to another server that isn’t connected to the first one. This works well when you are using a laptop as you can send the information to your main computer that way.
Another option is to invest in an external hard drive. You can simply plug it into your computer with a USB cable. Make sure that your back up isn’t in the same general location though. For example if lightening or something should damage your computer you don’t want it to damage the back up as well.
Many people have pictures on their computer these days. They are uploaded from cell phones and digital cameras. Others are emailed from friends and family. A great way to store them is to create online photo albums. Then if you lose the originals you can go to that location and upload them to your computer again.
Any computer out there can crash at any time. Sometimes the hard drive has just had enough. It could be that a virus has gotten through your firewall and your antivirus. Being prepared for such a situation is going to help you to come out on top though. Many people don’t think this will ever happen to them but it takes place very single day out there so you can’t be too careful.
While it can end up being a headache and frustrating when your computer crashes, it won’t be such a problem if you have been backing up your files. Too many people learn about this the hard way though. They wait until they have lost everything before they realize just how vulnerable they really are to lose that information. Don’t allow yourself to fall into that category.
