How to Read Tarot Cards

We’ve always wondered how the future might look like and we all want to know what it holds for us.

Throughout the years there have been men like Nostradamus who said they could predict the world’s future, yet we are more interested in seeing our own personal future. For this reason, we do not look at men like Nostradamus for the answers; we look close to ourselves, to those who say they know how to read our individual future through tarot cards.

Tarot card reading is an ancient custom that has become increasingly popular these days.

While many claim that the tarot is a psychic art, and only connoisseurs can practice it, it is common knowledge that everybody can do it if they learn how to read tarot cards.

If you are just starting to learn how to read tarot cards then there are a couple of basic rules you need to know about.

Choosing the deck of tarot cards is an important step.

It is commonly recommended that you start by getting a Waite-Raider deck.

This card-deck takes its name after its father, Arthur Waite – member of the Order of the Golden Dawn – and the design from its mother, Pamela Smith – also a member of the order that founded the art of tarot reading.

This particular deck is useful for beginners as it has a high level of mental and intellectual input to it, leaving the art of divination for later stages when the learner knows more.

After you’ve chosen your cards you need to know how to store them.

Because they are magical elements, they need to be stored in a clean and pure environment. As such, wrap them in a scarf or a piece of cloth and even consider storing them in a closed box. Before using them and actually starting to learn how to read tarot cards, it is said that you should sleep with the deck close to your heart or under your pillow for a whole week.

For a better and more accurate Tarot Card reading it is also advisable that you choose a signifier.

A signifier is a card that will stand as the symbol of the answer you are looking for.

When you read tarot or you learn how to read tarot cards you ask specific questions.

Even if most people these days ignore the signifier, it would be good for a beginner to use it and shape his answers around the signifier’s position.

Now that your Tarot Card deck is ready it is time to get to the specifics of learning how to read tarot cards.

You can read cards after you have spread them on the table.

There are two most common spreads:
1. The Gnostic Cross
2. The 12 Card spread.

The Gnostic Cross can give you a quick read of the person’s general profile, yet it cannot give you the answer to a situational question.

For this you will need the 12 card layout which gives out information about business, relationship, heath and so on.

As for the reading and interpreting rules themselves, we can say there are no rules.

If you’ve learnt the meaning of each card in the Major and Minor Arcana, components of the tarot deck, then the overall interpretation is only in your power to telland it depends mostly on your instincts and talent.

Once you’ve learnt how to read tarot cards and you have become somewhat proficient in doing so, you will marvel at the answers that you will receive.

As there are no hard rules to follow, the creativity you have will determine your unique ability to find solutions and forecasts to any question you may have.

However, be aware of the danger of becoming a slave to these cards.

You need to know from the very first that their meaning is only the meaning you give to them and they have no other power other than the one you let them have.

Knowing when and how to stop is essential. Therefore breathe in slowly and keep your grip when reading tarot cards.
