Most people look deep within themselves before deciding to become a Wicca. The basis of Wicca is not something to be taken lightly or entered into casually. Like any religion or belief system it requires commitment and action to succeed. Although many Wiccans do believe that there is no official right or wrong in the Wicca belief system there are some basic aspects which are universal.
1. Exploring Wicca
* To become a good Wicca you will need to do a lot of reading and studying to develop an understanding of its important principles. Reading will also help you to develop your own perspective on the belief system. Independent thought is encouraged so reading helps to answer your questions about the Craft.
It will also help you to determine if you are ready to adopt the principles of Wicca in your own life. Visit your local book shop or browse Web sites about Wicca online. Join a newsgroup. Message group or chat with others who practice Wicca. Ask as many questions as you feel you need to.
* If you feel that you understand the important principles well and would like to become a Wicca start by looking deep within and reflecting on what you would like to achieve and what the best way to do it might be. Concentrate on understanding what you believe inside your own heart and mind.
* Think about the world and how it works. Ask yourself why it works that way.
* Begin a meditation on how you see yourself as a person and who you would like to be in the future. Understanding ourselves is the key to gaining a deeper understanding of the world.
* During your research and exploration try to become familiar with the following concepts:
1. The history of Wicca and its cultural origins.
2. The traditions and ways in which Wicca is practiced today.
3. Basic ethical guidelines of Wicca for example the Rede or Law of Three.
4. A basic overview of karma and reincarnation (or transmigration).
5. Understanding on how Magick works.
6. Deity names and aspects.
7. The elements and correspondences.
8. Basic tools of the Craft and their uses in ritual work.
9. Divination, visualization and meditation techniques.
10. Folklore and mythology about Wicca.
Understanding these concepts will form the foundation of your journey to become a Wicca. Allow these concepts to become a part of your inner self and reflect constantly on what you have learned. Keep a journal or Book of Shadows to document all your thoughts and feelings.
